Neil Keep loves entertaining seniors and it shows.

He uses songs, famous character voices, short stories, gentle humour and his larger-than-life presence to engage and energize audiences. Though most of his show is straight-up entertainment, audiences often dance, sing, clap and tap along to the incredible music he brings. A few sing-alongs are usually on tap for those who like to sing along.

With an ever-widening musical repertoire covering Jazz, Swing, Big Band, Crooners, Pop, Country & Western, Neil has done well over 200 shows since starting on the seniors' entertainment "circuit" in April 2012 and has become the go-to favourite of many facilities.

Enthusiastic listeners often come right up to him after the show to say his repertoire was "Spot-on", "Something for everyone", "Delightfully unique", "I haven't heard THOSE songs in years!", "All my favourites, I sang along to every one of them!" "Your Willie Nelson / Julio Iglesias impersonations were amazing, how DO you DO that with your voice?" "You are by far the best singer we've ever had, and sweetie... we've had a lot!"

The # 1 comment however, is always... "WHEN WILL YOU BE BACK?"

One of Neil's greatest joys is helping adults "in care"
forget they are "in care" for a little while.

Although Neil plays a few instruments - privately - he uses backing tracks for his accompaniment on solo senior shows. Backing tracks allow him to offer a much bigger sound on a budget and incredible "sound-alikes" in many genres. The tracks also help him concentrate on communicating with his audience and his vocal quality.

Sample of a show favourite: King of the Road (Roger Miller)

SOLO Show Fees
One-hour SOLO show (Neil and backing tracks): $150 (suggested)

Why is the solo show fee suggested? It is Neil's heart's desire to brighten the lives of ALL seniors/adults in care WHILE making a good living for his family. Frankly, more than $150 would be great but it's not always possible. He makes fee exceptions for facilities with smaller budgets, such as Adult Day Programs. He also strives to constantly improve the quality of the solo show because he knows his audiences are intelligent: they deserve and discern good entertainment. To make a living, pay taxes and expenses, make exceptions for lower budgets and continually improve the show, it takes much more than most people imagine. If your facility has more than $150 to offer per show, PLEASE consider offering more. It helps Neil, it helps seniors in less fortunate circumstances AND it feels good to do good.

DUO Show Fees
One-hour DUO show (Neil and live accompaniment): $300 (non-negotiable)

Why is this fee non-negotiable? When the occasion calls for live accompaniment, Neil works with the finest professional accompanists in Winnipeg, some of which are the stuff of local legend: Merv Mauthe, Ron Paley, Jonathan Alexiux, Robert Burton, Stephen Kiz, Peter Sarmatiuk... just to name a few. He just figures by sheer dint of their credentials and decades of professional experience, they should be paid a professional rate, without question. When you hear them play, we know you'll agree!

(Neil also works more hours getting ready for live shows than he does for ones that use backing tracks - it's just more involved)

Miscellaneous information

Neil wears a suit and tie for each show, except for the entire month of December when he wears a TUXEDO.

Neil has been known to be available on short notice. The record: One hour.

Neil will not use in-house sound equipment - even if there is a dedicated sound technician - there are too many unknowns that can ruin a show with a simple flip of a switch. It happens. Nobody wants that. He brings and operates his own sound system (unless the venue is huge, or you are entertaining over 200 people - that's when you need to talk about getting a bigger PA system)

Neil has been singing since before he could talk, that's roughly 51 years. He currently sings professionally with 5 Winnipeg-based bands including: The Merv Mauthe Quintet, The BMW (Bavarian Musik Werks), Ricky Bogart & The New Casbah Band, the Neil Keep Duo (Trio, Quartet, etc.), and a touring tribute show: The InClines - Sweet Dreams of Patsy Cline.

Neil will bring his SOLO show to your party whether you have seniors there or not is up to you. He'll sing a lot longer than an hour if you pay him enough. His repertoire also extends past what he provides for the seniors shows. He's sung at Birthdays, Anniversaries, Retirements, Milestones, Receptions, Volunteer Appreciation Events, Fundraisers. Supper Clubs, Theme Clubs/Associations.
$150 for one hour SOLO show, $75 per each additional 45-minute set or portion thereafter. Travel expenses may apply.

Neil has a CD called Mr. E & The Jazz Gumshoes. He would love to sell you many.
